Source protection

How the newsroom reduces avoidable risk to students, witnesses and families.

Two different routes

A newsroom tip is confidential by default: reporter identity, contact details and uploaded files remain inside the restricted review console unless a publication decision and safety assessment are made. An official complaint is different. End Ragging transmits the complaint, and any identity the reporter elects to include, to the authorities selected by the reporter.

Minimise what you share

  • Do not upload Aadhaar, financial, medical or intimate material unless it is indispensable and lawful to possess.
  • Do not provide another witness’s contact details without permission.
  • Use a safe device and network if disclosure could put you at risk.
  • For an immediate threat, contact emergency services or the National Anti-Ragging Helpline rather than waiting for a newsroom response.

Evidence integrity

Original evidence is retained privately because altering it can destroy context or authenticity. It is never published directly. Any copy prepared for publication must be separately redacted and stripped of unnecessary identifying metadata.

Limits

No digital system can promise absolute anonymity. Account access, devices, networks and lawful legal demands can create identifying records outside our control.
